The passing of Marty Lockhart….It is with great sadness to announce that one of our former AOH, Fenian Division, presidents has passed away. Marty passed away after a 5 month battle with cancer. Marty was one of our former presidents back when we were still on official AOH division. Marty was 43 years old at the time of his passing, and he will be missed by many. Our condolences go out to the entire Lockhart family.

Cancellation of Bus Trip to Bourbon Trail….Due to a lack of numbers it was necessary to cancel our bus trip. We found that the October 1^st date conflicted with other activities and plans. We hope to reschedule the trip, possibly in the coming spring. Our sincerest thanks to Charlie Fedders for his efforts in planning this event.

Thanks for a fun evening with the Florence Freedom….Our thanks to everyone who made our first Irish Heritage Night with the Florence Freedom baseball team a great evening. We thank Mike Whitehead for planning the event, Steve Burke for instructing the Freedom’s mascot on the clapping sequence of “The Wild Rover,” Dan Shae and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Glee Club for singing the American and Irish National Anthems and assisting with The Wild Rover, Claire Oliver and the McGing Irish Dancers who danced before the game and between innings, and thanks to Claire also for her assistance in planning the event. We would also like to thank Gerry Fritsch and Matthew Kelly of the Emerald Society Pipes and Drums who piped before the game. Gerry also threw out the first pitch…in his kilt while holding his bagpipe.

Irish Tapestry Program….Thursday, September 29, 2011. Have you ever heard the Tellico Appalachian Band and the Riley School of Music perform together? Plan for a fun filled evening at Molly Malone’s in Covington. The session begins at 7:00pm on the third floor of Molly Malone’s.

Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Gamewatch….Our Lady of Knock Ancient Order of Hibernians has invited all of us to their hall on Saturday September 17 to watch the Notre Dame-Michigan State game and the Ohio Sate game to follow. Activities begin at 3pm and continue until 10:30pm. The $5 admission fee includes a beverage and a hot dog, brat, or hamburger. Other beverages are available and include soft drinks and beer. Extra chips, pretzels, hot dogs, brats, and burgers will also be available. The address is Our Lady of Knock AOH Hall, 8070-1 Reading Road, Cincinnati.

Art Exhibit of Cindy Matyi’s Works….An Art Exhibit including Cindy’s artworks will be featured at the Cincinnati Art Club-Wessel Gallery, located at 1021 Parkside Place in Mount Adams. The Opening Reception will be on Friday, September 23^rd from 6pm to 10pm. Other dates include September 24-25 from 1pm to 5pm, and October 1—2, also from 1pm to 5pm

Congenealogy….Wednesday, September 28^th at the Baker Hunt Art and Cultural Center from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Join the staff of the Kenton County Library for discussions, speakers, and resource sharing on all things genealogy.

List of dates for Fenian meetings for the remainder of 2011…. All meetings are at Malone’s Irish Pub in Covington on the second floor. Meetings will begin at 7pm unless noted in the most recent newsletter. Our Christmas Dinner will begin at 6:30pm. Here are the remaining dates for this year: October 25, and December 13. Mark your calendars for those dates, and we will hope to see many of you at our upcoming gatherings. We will send out a reminder again about a week before the October meeting to remind everyone of our October 25^th gathering.

Also worth noting….On Friday February 10^th, Thomas More College will host the 7^th Annual Thomas More Concert of Irish Music. The concert will be free and open to the public on that evening at 7pm. Groups scheduled to perform include Ceol Mohr, Murphy’s Law, and Silver Arm. We will more information about the event in upcoming newsletters.

The Irish Heritage Center has a very active calendar of events upcoming. Visit their website at www.irishcenterofcincinnati.com. Their phone number is 513-533-0133. The Center will be hosting concerts, Irish language classes, art classes, ceili’s, theater performances, history presentations, and more. Check out their website or call for lots of information.
