Fenian
Bi-Monthly Meeting- Our next Fenian meeting/get together is scheduled for the Second Tuesday
of April 2008. That
will be on April 8 at 7:30pm at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub in Covington,
KY. Thanks to Theresa Eberly, we
will have the Celtic Rhythm Dancers for our entertainment.
For our new members, the Fenians meet the SECOND TUESDAY on a bi-monthly
basis at Molly Malone’s. Welcome
to new members- We
wish to extend a warm Irish welcome to our newest members…..Julianne Graf,
James and Sharon Moore, Joe Guenther, and returning member, Joe Merten.
We look forward to having you join us in furthering our programs and
activities. Our
sincere thanks to Dave Schneider and the Schneider family and Rosebrook Art Center in making
our Irish Concert Night a success. Our
event was a memorial to Mrs. Rosalind Schneider and we had several of her
paintings of Ireland exhibited. The
Schneiders and Rosebrook provided complimentary snacks and refreshments for
concert attendees. We would also
like to thank Ceol Mhor, Murphy’s Law, and Silverarm as the bands that
performed that evening. 2nd Irish Day at the Races- The event was a success. Our thanks to all who helped in this endeavor. Special thanks to our sponsors/partners: Turfway Park, Coors Brewing Company (George Killian’s Irish Red), Stagnaro Distributing Inc., and Molly Malone’s Irish Pub (Covington, KY) who all made our event possible. Thanks also to our excellent entertainment performers and vendors. They helped make the event fun for the entire family. Let’s do it again next year! St. Patrick’s Mass- The Fenians annual St. Patrick’s Mass will be celebrated Thursday, March 13 at 7:00pm at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption. Following the Mass, there will be a gathering at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub in Covington. As with all Fenian events, the public is welcomed to participate. The Celebrant will be Rev. Msgr. William Neuhaus. Our thanks to Don McGrath for planning our annual St. Patrick’s Mass. Tapestry at Thomas More-Tuesday, March 18, 2008. 7pm. “I am Ireland: Padraic Pearse and the Easter Rebellion of 1916.” Rescheduled Event- The presentation is by Dr. Ray Hebert. Thomas More College and Northern Kentucky University Military History Lecture Series jointly sponsor the event. This will take place at Steigerwald Hall in the Holbrook Student Center at Thomas More College. Admission for this event is free as well. Dr. Hebert takes us on an unforgettable journey: an examination of the Easter rising, a failure that succeeded, and its consequences for modern Ireland-and the key role played by the leaders of that rebellion, Padraig Pearse. Wednesday, March 26, 2008. “A Night of Irish Spirits.” 7pm. Admission is $7. Back by popular demand, international beer judge Guy Burgess taps his knowledge of Ireland’s brewing icon, Guinness, as well as other brews. Learn about beers, ales, and stouts and have a taste as well. It will be at the Oriental Wok, 317 Buttermilk Pike, Ft. Mitchell, KY. There is ample parking in the rear. Hors d’oeuveres at 6:30pm. The March 26 program is part of the Tapestry of Irish History and Culture Series, a joint venture between the Fenians and Thomas More College, now in its 11th year. For information about Tapestry programming, please call 859-344-3310. Saturday, March 15, 2008. St. Patrick’s Parade. The parade will be in downtown Cincinnati. Note: there is no parade in Bellevue, KY this year. Palm Sunday- The LAOH will host their mass at St. Jude’s at 11am. There will be a brunch at Nick and Tom’s afterwards. Detail will be available at church on Palm Sunday. Membership dues are due for 2008- Membership dues are as follow for The Fenians of Northern KY, Inc. for this calendar year…. Adult membership: $25 Senior membership: $20 Family membership (husband and wife): $40 Student membership: $10. Checks should be made payable to the Fenians of Northern KY, Inc. and sent to our post office box at: Fenians of Northern KY, Inc. P.O. Box 17731 Covington, KY 41017 The Celtic Rhythm Dancers- The Celtic Rhythm Dancers will be performing at the Celtic Lands Festival on Saturday, March 15 at 4:30pm at Union Terminal. The event is free, but there is a fee to park. The Dancers will also perform on Monday, March 17 at Molly Malone’s in Covington at 1:30pm and 7:00pm in the outside stage tent. Roger Drawdy and the Firestarters- The band
will play at Molly Malone’s in Covington on Monday, March 17 at noon and 9pm
on the outside stage tent. They will
also play at Molly Malone’s in Pleasant Ridge (Montgomery Road near Ridge Rd.)
on Friday, March 14 at 9pm. On
Saturday, March 15, they will play at T.J. Maloney’s and the Radisson Hotel
Ballroom in Merrillville, IN at 7pm.
The Irish American Theater Company- Gary Schlegel has announced that the theater company will perform “A Little Like Paradise” three times in April. We will send along information about that in the next newsletter.The McGings- The McGing Irish Dancers performed at the Irish Day at the Races. They wanted us to remind everyone that the Cincinnati Feis will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2008 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. The event begins at 9am. Over 1200 dancers are expected to participate this year. A Different Way of Seeing- Celtic art from painter Cindy Matyi and Woodworker Kelly Kerin are on display at the Christ Church Cathedral in Lexington, KY until April 6. Also, Cindy has a new children’s picture book available that’s called “Little Town of Spirals.” Copies can be ordered by calling 513-871-4527 or by ordering online at www.matyiart.com. From the editor- The month of March is a very busy time for The Fenians and all the Irish of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Please mark your calendars for any or all of the events listed above.
